One of my kids’ favorite stories growing up was “Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good Very Bay Day” by Judith Viorst. In this lovable story, Alexander wakes up with gum in his hair, his brother gets the box of cereal with the prize in it and so his terrible, horrible day begins.

Remembering the inspiration and legacy, 50 years later

Monday, January 19, 2015 is the Federal holiday celebrating Martin Luther King Jr. 

On August 28, 1963, on the steps of the Lincoln Memorial during the March on Washington, Martin Luther King gave one of the most powerful and memorable speeches in our nation's history to about 250,000 people.

Coming in January the Jasper County Public Library website - www.myjcpl.org - is getting a new look designed to make it more useful for patrons, and easier to access on a variety of mobile platforms.

What's The Buzz? New Fiction on the Shelves of Your Local Branch of JCPL!

What’s the ‘buzz?’ At the close of every year, I check out the most popular ‘buzzwords’ for the year; the words that have made it into Wikipedia and the dictionary, most of which I had never heard before. Apparently, this year is all about ‘localisation,’ defined as “movement toward localized appeal by consumers.”

The Library has the magic for your holiday season

Jasper County Public Library wants to wish everyone a wonderful holiday season, and to help make your season brighter.

Add magic to the season by getting some traditional Christmas music for trimming the tree or get a holiday DVD to watch.

Of course there are treats to be made, and the library has many books with ideas and recipes for those special treats.
