Historic videos of Rensselaer online

The nature of the Internet is that old things are always new.

For instance, recently a patron stumbled upon some cool videos made by Rensselaer Middle School students about the history of the town, apparently for a school contest.

Even though these videos are three years old, they are still new to us, and just as neat now as if they had just been made.

The video that got brought to our attention was the winning video, titled "My Town," made by Avery Randle and Jacob Buczek. (Watch it on youtube.) These teens put a lot of historical research into their video, and creatively set it to the tune of the song by the same name by Montgomery Gentry.

Another video from the top five posted by the same person -- made by Conner Jackson and Cole Hickman (Watch it on youtube) -- captured our heart by using photos of the old library as well as the new one.

You might not be aware, but there are a lot of videos about Jasper County and its residents online. The video suggestions youtube provides on either of these videos are sure to have you off and running looking at other videos of the fair, local weather and events.

Finding these videos is even more interesting since we are talking this month about things you could be doing with technology.

We can't wait to see more of your stories!
