Celebrate the joy of the written word as we all “Take Time Out for Reading” on Friday, October 3 from 10-10:15 am, when the staff at the Jasper County Public Library will take fifteen minutes to put their nose in a book to observe this honorary tradition.

Take Time Out for Reading, sponsored by the Northwest Indiana Literacy Coalition, began in 2003, and was designed to heighten awareness for literacy across Northwest Indiana. Held in conjunction with Northwest Indiana’s “Books to Bridge the Region” reading initiative, Take Time Out for Reading is a fun way for people of all ages and from all walks of life to share their love of books and reading. The Books to Bridge the Region reading initiative encompasses seven counties in the Northwest Indiana area and encourages everyone to read the same title and attend discussions and other activities that relate to the chosen titles.

This year’s theme is “Ordinary People; Extraordinary Deeds” The adult title for this year’s Books to Bridge is “Memoirs of an Imaginary Friend” by Matthew Dicks,  “The View From Saturday” by E.L. Konisburg for middle readers, and “Heart Prints” by P.K. Hallinan for young children.
