David Baldacci to serve as Honorary Chair

National Library Week honors libraries, librarians, and library staff all across the country, and is celebrated the week of April 12-18 this year.

This special event will be observed by the Jasper County Public Library located in Rensselaer, DeMotte and Wheatfield with a Daily Prize Giveaway, during which prizes will randomly be given out to patrons each day of the week, and a Coloring Contest, open to ages 3-11.

To enter, pick up a coloring sheet at any branch of JCPL and return it by April 20. Coloring pages will be judged by age category.

First sponsored in 1958, National Library Week is a national observance sponsored by the American Library Association (ALA) and libraries across the country each April. It is a time to celebrate the contributions of our nation's libraries and librarians and to promote library use and support. All types of libraries - school, public, academic and special - participate.

Best-selling author David Baldacci will serve as Honorary Chair of National Library Week 2015.

Baldacci’s novels (browse our catalog) have been translated into more than 45 languages and have been adapted for film and television. Over 110 million copies of his books are in print worldwide.

In addition, Baldacci is involved with several philanthropic organizations, including his family’s Wish You Well Foundation®, which fosters and promotes the development and expansion of literacy and educational programs.

Celebrations during National Library Week include:

  • National Library Workers Day -  Tuesday of National Library Week (April 14, 2015), a day for library staff, users, administrators and Friends groups to recognize the valuable contributions made by all library workers
  • Celebrate Teen Literature Day -  Thursday of National Library Week (April 16, 2015), aimed at raising awareness among the general public that young adult literature is a vibrant, growing genre with much to offer today's teens.
