Do you check out LARGE PRINT books or know someone who isn’t able to read regular print books and magazines due to a visual or physical disability?

The Indiana Talking Book and Braille Library (TBBL), provides digital audio books and magazines, large print books and books in Braille to Indiana residents who are unable to read regular print. With this FREE service, materials and playback equipment needed to read audiobooks and magazines are sent to borrowers and returned to libraries by postage-free mail.

The Indiana Talking Book and Braille Library is one of 57 regional libraries of the Library of Congress’ National Library Services for the Blind and Physically Handicapped. Eligibility requirements and an application form are available through the Indiana State Library web site or in person at any Jasper County Public Library.

What TBBL Does:

  • Circulate books in audio format, Braille, and large print to eligible Hoosiers, FREE of charge.
  • Provide magazines in special formats for those who cannot read standard print.
  • Provide specialized children’s services, including a summer reading program, and a newsletter for parents and educators.

Jasper County Public Libraries are served by the Northwest Indiana Subregional Library, which is Lake County Public Library in Merrillville.

Once signed up with the program, borrowers can check out a limited number of items in each format. For each book returned in each format, a replacement book will be sent to the borrower. The loan period for books is 30 days for individuals. No fines for overdue books will be levied; however, borrowers are urged to observe the loan period so books can be available for other readers.

If you or someone you know could use these services, contact us or check out the TBBL website to explore this option today.
