Beginning May 2, all three branches of the Jasper County Public Library are launching “1,000 Books Before Kindergarten,” a program that encourages children ages birth through preschool to discover the love of reading.

To participate, parents are invited to come to any branch of JCPL and pick up a special binder with a reading log and begin reading and recording each title read.

For every 100 books read and recorded in the reading binder, children are invited to bring their favorite book to the library and be photographed with it, adding their photo to the library’s “1,000 Book Wall.”

Reading 500 books makes children eligible to receive a tote bag and when they reach 1,000 books read, they are invited to choose a book to take home.
