Driving home one day, the radio was shouting out my favorite ‘60’s songs. Before I pulled into the driveway, the last song I heard was the Rolling Stones’ ‘I Can’t Get No Satisfaction.’

April 1st has come and gone, but my grandkids are firm believers in April Fool’s Day jokes and pranks.

My five year old grandson is just getting his feet wet with the idea of April Fool’s Day, and told me that morning that he is going to ‘pwank me.’ It was too early in the morning to try and decipher what that meant, but I asked him to repeat himself.

Super Tuesday is behind us and the candidates for the 2016 Presidential election are making their cases, addressing the issues of today: 1.) balance the budget 2.) tax reform 3.) immigration laws 4.) health insurance regulation 5.) defense spending; the list goes on and on.

Bottle of Awesomesauce

Popular in today’s fast paced society is the art of multitasking. Even our shopping trips are multitasking events, and stores cater to the multi-taskers in us by offering BOGO sales and other promotions.

February is right around the corner; it is National Heart Month, Super Bowl month, and the month that predicts whether winter will last 6 more weeks or end in a month and a half. So many more special events are set aside in February, however, and you’ve probably never heard of most of them.

Plenty of vacations taken through the years stand out in my mind. Isn’t it always nice to get away? Nicer, still, to get home and just enjoy relaxing with your family.

Some folks like adventure; some like scenery; others just enjoy the thrill of seeing something different.

Learning new things is daunting; following directions is not my strong-suit. Discovering, however, that You-Tube contains so many useful tutorials, mostly made by real people, I have come to depend on this quick, concise video format to learn how to complete a variety of tasks.

One morning as I ventured into the home of my daughter and four grandchildren, I was greeted by one of their two cats. Asking my nine year old granddaughter where Sugar had been that morning, she replied, “Oh, she was probably out hunting mice, you know, getting as many as she can before hunting season is over.”

One of my favorite games is Trivia Crack. Am I good at it? Not really, but it’s fun trying to remember what I learned in geography, history, science, & art, and how much I pay attention to the world of entertainment and sports.

American pianist, conductor and composer, David Burge had it right when he said, “Yes, the English language can be weird. It can be understood through tough, thorough thought, though.”

Though the thought behind this tough sentence might be thorough, the toughest thought, is that although thorough, it may be true, through and through.

It is said that no two snowflakes are alike. There is a scientific explanation for this phenomena; something to do with ice, molecules, hydrogen and oxygen. I am no scientist, but I do know that when it comes to the human race, no two people are exactly alike, either.

William Shakespeare, as a hipster, ponders books

I love words, and because I love words, I love books. In fact, I love books just as much as I hate math, and I hate math very much.

My checkbook knows this, and would actually be better off taking care of itself. Even calculators don’t help, mostly because calculators are only as good as their operators.

Dog dreaming about dog books

‘Working like a dog,’ ‘dog tired,’ ‘it’s a dog’s life;’ these phrases give me pause as I look over at both of my dogs, stretched out on a couch in each room, comfy and dreaming whatever dreams that dogs dream.

Kitten 'reading' a book.

Cats have nine lives; I grew up believing it to be fact. I have 2 cats; one of who is an excellent escape artist and can hide herself away in unknown spaces for any length of time she wishes not to be found.

“Outside of a dog, books are man’s best friend; inside of a dog it’s too dark to read,” quips comedian, Groucho Marx. Groucho, in all of his wisdom, sounds like he knows all about dogs. Groucho, in all of his wisdom, must know Harley, the black-lab-with-an-iron-gut-who-will-eat-anything, and I’m not kidding.
