On Your Mark, Get Set... Read! - Summer Reading 2016

DeMotte Summer Reading

Kids entering grades K-5 are invited to come to the DeMotte Library’s “On Your Mark, Get Set, READ” Summer Reading Program, beginning in June.  

With the extra incentives of prizes and fun, weekly programs for kids of this age that are held in conjunction with the Summer Reading Program, children in this age group will be excited to read, read, read during the summer months.

Kids signed up for “On Your Mark, Get Set, READ” will enjoy entertaining programs that will be held each Tuesday at 2 pm, beginning on June 7.

Toddlers age 2-4, along with their caregivers, are invited to attend half hour long, weekly Summer Story Time sessions, held each Wednesday @ 2 pm in the Children’s Area of the Library throughout the month of June. Story Time will consist of stories, rhymes, finger plays, crafts and other fun activities for this age group. Registration is required for these Story Time sessions.

Registrations for Summer Reading programs begin May 31st and are available online at or by visiting or calling the DeMotte Library, 901 Birch St., SW, DeMotte, 219 987-2221.             


Rensselaer Summer Reading

Children age preschool through grade 5 won’t want to miss the fun at the Rensselaer Library, where this year’s Summer Reading program theme is “On Your Mark, Get Set, READ!”

Beginning May 23rd, children may sign up to participate in On Your Mark, Get Set, READ and attend fun programs each Wednesday at 10 am, while reading books throughout the program that will earn them the chance to win prizes. Reading packets may be picked up beginning  May 31st.

The kickoff for On Your Mark, Get Set, READ will be held on Monday, June 6 @ 3 pm, and includes fun activities and an ice cream social!  If you haven’t had the chance to sign up for this year’s Summer Reading Program, this is a great chance to do so!

Wheatfield Summer Reading

Kids who like to read and enjoy the summer fun of attending library programs will want to join us at the Wheatfield Library, where this year’s summer reading theme is “On Your Mark, Get Set, READ!”

Open to children who have completed Kindergarten through grade 4, registration will be held beginning May 31-June 4, and will be available by visiting the Wheatfield Library. Reading packets containing the reading elements to participate in the program are available at the library, and fun, entertaining weekly programs will be held each Tuesday at 10 am beginning June 7.

Completing the required 60 minutes of reading earns children prizes and makes them eligible to win the grand prize drawing, and reading more than the required 60 minutes makes participants eligible for more entries toward the grand prize drawing, so the more you read, the better your chances of winning at the end of the program!

Summer Reading is a great way to keep kids of all ages reading during the summer months, as well as entertain them with fun, age appropriate programs. Youth-Healthy Eating @ Rensselaer

Children ages Pre K thru 5th grade are invited to join us for our weekly Summer Reading program.  Alice Smith from the Jasper County Purdue Extension Office will be hear to teach us how to eat healthy. 

Youth-What's on Your Plate? @ Rensselaer

Thurs Jul 14, 3-4:00 p.m.

Children in grades K thru 5 are invited to join us for Make it Take it craft.  This week we will be doing "What's on Your Plate?"  Kids will be filling up a plate with pictures of healthy foods. Come by anytime between 3-4:00 p.m. 

Summer READing Finale Party @ Rensselaer

All children and teens who participated in our summer reading program are invited to our Summer READing Finale party.  Children and teens who completed any weeks on their reading logs will be eligible to win a variety of prizes.

Decorate a Indiana State Cookie

Tues Jul 19, 6 p.m.

Adults and teens are invited to join us as we decorate Indiana shaped sugar cookies.  We will be learning the basics of decorating sugar cookies.  This program is part of our year long Indiana Bicentennial programs.

Children under age 12 must be accompanied by an adult.  Registration is required, limit 15.
