Every Hero Has a Story! - Summer Reading 2015

DeMotte Summer Reading

Kids ages 4 through 4th grade are invited to come to the DeMotte Library’s “Every Hero Has a Story” Summer Reading Program, beginning in June.

With the extra incentives of prizes and fun, weekly programs for kids of this age that are held in conjunction with the Summer Reading Program, children in this age group will be excited to read, read, read during the summer months.

Kids signed up for “Every Hero Has a Story” will enjoy entertaining programs that will be held each Tuesday at 2 pm, beginning on June 9. Some programs planned include Christopher the Magician, Twist and Smile Balloons, Indiana Wild and Rory McMahon as Spider Man.

Registrations begin on May 18 and are open to age 4 through grade 4. Summer Reading packets, complete with the reading elements required for children to be eligible for prizes awarded during and at the end of the program, will be available for pick up at the library beginning Monday, June 1.

Rensselaer Summer Reading

Children age preschool through grade 5 won’t want to miss the fun at the Rensselaer Library, where this year’s Summer Reading program theme is “Every Hero Has a Story.”

Beginning May 26, children may sign up to participate in Every Hero Has a Story and attend fun programs each Wednesday at 10 am, while reading books throughout the program that will earn them the chance to win prizes.

The kickoff for Every Hero Has a Story will be held on Wednesday, June 3 @ 3 pm, and includes fun activities and ice cream! If you haven’t had the chance to sign up for this year’s Summer Reading Program, this is a great chance to do so!

Registration is required to take part in summer reading, and to attend individual programs. Registration is available online  or by visiting or calling the Rensselaer Library at 866-5881.

Wheatfield Summer Reading

Kids who like to read and enjoy the summer fun of attending library programs will want to join us at the Wheatfield Library, where this year’s summer reading theme is “Every Hero Has a Story.”

Open to children who have completed Kindergarten through grade 4, registration will be held beginning June 1, and will be available by visiting the Wheatfield Library. Reading packets containing the reading elements to participate in the program are available at the library, and fun, entertaining weekly programs will be held each Tuesday at 10 am beginning June 9.

Completing the required 60 minutes of reading earns children prizes and makes them eligible to win the grand prize drawing, and reading more than the required 60 minutes makes participants eligible for more entries toward the grand prize drawing, so the more you read, the better your chances of winning at the end of the program!

Summer Reading is a great way to keep kids reading during the summer months, as well as entertain them with fun, age appropriate programs. Registration is required to attend. For more information, visit or call the Wheatfield Library, 956-3774.

Summer Reading-A Visit from "Peter Parker" @Wheatfield

Meet The Amazing Spiderman

Rory McMahon, last year's Albert Einstein, is back as the Amazing Spiderman.  Come see how Rory transforms into this popular superhero: The Amazing Spiderman.

You won't want to miss this action packed program.  Programs usually last about an hour.  Call 866-5881 with any questions.

Youth Obstacle Course

Children Pre K-thru 5th grade are welcome to join us for a Obstacle Course.  Be a super hero and try your hand at rescuing different creatures from perilous situations.  Children may come anytime between 3-4 p.m.  Register online or call 866-5881.

Youth Reduce, Reuse, Recycle

Children Pre K thru 5th grade are welcome to join us for a recycling program.  Marc Maguran form the Northwest Indiana Solid Waste District will be joining us to talk about the 3 R's.  Reduce, Reuse, Recycle. 

Meet Local Heroes

You are invited to come meet some of our local hereos.  We will have special guests from the Rensselaer Police, Fire and Ambulance.  They will also be bringing their police cars, firetrucks and ambulance for us to get up close and look at.
